AUGUSTUS OF PRIMA PORTA – ROMAN EMPEROR SCULPTURE
Few images have defined the power of Ancient Rome as profoundly as the Augustus of Prima Porta.
Created during the early Roman Empire, this extraordinary sculpture portrays Augustus, Rome’s first emperor, not simply as a ruler, but as the embodiment of authority, military victory and divine destiny.
The original marble sculpture was discovered in 1863 at the Villa of Livia at Prima Porta, near Rome. Augustus stands in a commanding pose, his right arm raised as if addressing his troops or the Roman people. His idealized features combine political power with the timeless perfection of classical Greek art.
The richly decorated cuirass is one of the most fascinating elements of the composition. Its complex reliefs refer to Roman military triumph, diplomacy and the restoration of the standards lost to the Parthians, transforming the sculpture into a powerful statement of imperial propaganda.
At Augustus’s feet appears a small figure of Cupid riding a dolphin, a symbolic reference to the emperor’s claimed descent from the goddess Venus through the Julian family. This detail reinforces the divine legitimacy that surrounded the image of Rome’s first emperor.
Our artistic reconstruction of the Augustus of Prima Porta has been carefully developed to preserve the commanding presence, idealized anatomy and extraordinary decorative detail of the ancient masterpiece.
Presented in our signature Malta White Matte finish, the sculpture has a refined, warm ivory-white appearance inspired by the visual elegance of classical museum collections. The matte surface enhances the sculptural volumes and allows the intricate details of the armour, drapery and anatomy to remain clearly visible under changing light.
Each sculpture is individually prepared and finished by hand in our workshop, creating a work with its own subtle character while preserving the monumental spirit of one of the most iconic images of Ancient Rome.
More than a decorative object, the Augustus of Prima Porta represents a defining moment in Western history: the transformation of Rome from Republic to Empire and the creation of an image of power that would influence rulers for centuries.
MATERIAL INFORMATION
This sculpture is created in solid high-density photoreactive resin, using materials selected for their exceptional precision, durability and ability to capture extremely fine sculptural detail.
Materials of this type are widely used for high-precision artistic reproductions, professional model-making, cinema, theatre, museums and cultural institutions, where surface definition and dimensional accuracy are essential.
We do not use plaster, mineral composites, stone powder or conventional plastic.
The sculpture is produced through a carefully developed process that combines digital reconstruction, high-precision replication and extensive manual finishing. After replication, every piece is individually cleaned, refined, polished and finished by hand in our workshop.
This process allows us to preserve subtle anatomical forms, textures and details that would be lost with lower-quality materials or conventional casting methods.
The result is a solid, durable and highly detailed hand-finished artwork, created for collectors who value sculptural accuracy and professional craftsmanship.
MALTA WHITE MATTE FINISH
Our signature Malta White Matte finish gives the sculpture a refined, warm ivory-white appearance inspired by classical sculpture and museum collections.
Unlike a glossy or artificial-looking surface, the matte finish softly absorbs light and enhances the depth of the sculptural forms, revealing the intricate reliefs of the cuirass, the folds of the drapery and the anatomical details of the figure.
Each finish is applied and refined individually by hand in our workshop.
HAND-FINISHED ARTWORK
Every sculpture is individually finished by hand in our workshop.
The final surface is carefully refined through several stages of cleaning, polishing and manual finishing to achieve the appearance shown in the photographs.
This individual process gives each sculpture its own subtle character and ensures that every piece receives the same level of attention and craftsmanship.
