Portrait of Socrates. Roman artwork (1st century). Louvre.
€79,95 – €275,00 (Inc. Tax)
Here we can recognise the traits of the Greek philosopher Socrates (469-399 BC), identified by other portraits, sculptures or paintings. This portrait could perhaps be part of a reproduction of an original hostumous sculpture by Lysippos around 318-317 BC depicting the philosopher seated. We know that the original in bronze, now lost, had been commissioned to Lysippos by Athens because they regretted condemning Socrates to death.
