The Diana of Versailles, also known as Diana the huntress (Diane Chasseresse), Artemis of the hunt or Diana with the hind (Diana à la Biche), is a marble statue of the Greek goddess Artemis (in Roman mythology: Diana) who It is in the Louvre Museum in Paris. It represents the goddess in motion, with her left hand resting on the antlers of a small deer and her right on her quiver. The statue, which is slightly larger than life size, is a 1st or 2nd century Roman copy of a lost Greek original in bronze. The original work is dated approximately 325 BC. C. and belonged to the second classicism. Its authorship was attributed for a long time to Leochares, although Praxiteles has also been proposed as the author of the Greek bronze.
