The sculpture perfectly embodies the theatrical genius of the Baroque. Flowing drapery appears to move with supernatural energy, while the delicate expressions of both Saint Teresa and the angel create a remarkable harmony between human emotion and divine transcendence. Above the figures, gilded bronze rays descend from a hidden window, creating a dramatic illusion of heavenly light that transforms the entire chapel into a complete work of art where architecture, sculpture and natural illumination become one.

Commissioned by Cardinal Federico Cornaro, the sculpture remains the focal point of the famous Cornaro Chapel and is widely regarded as one of the greatest achievements in the history of European sculpture.
