Mercury About to Kill Argus – Malta White Matte Mythological Sculpture – Hermes Classical Art – Artistic Reconstruction
€79,00 – €319,00Price range: €79,00 through €319,00 (Inc. Tax)
The final moment before a legendary act of deception and violence.
Mercury About to Kill Argus captures one of the most dramatic episodes in classical mythology: the instant when Mercury prepares to strike Argus after deceiving the legendary guardian and lulling him to sleep.
According to the ancient myth, Jupiter fell in love with Io and transformed her into a white heifer in an attempt to conceal her from his wife, Juno. Suspicious of the deception, Juno placed Io under the protection of Argus Panoptes, the legendary giant whose many eyes made him an almost impossible guardian to overcome.
Jupiter then sent Mercury, the messenger of the gods, to free Io.
Rather than confronting Argus directly, Mercury approached him disguised as a shepherd. Through music, conversation and cunning, he gradually lulled the watchful guardian to sleep.
The sculpture captures the decisive moment that follows: Mercury stands poised with his sword, ready to deliver the fatal blow.
The calm elegance of the figure contrasts with the violence about to unfold. His winged helmet identifies him as the divine messenger, while the restrained pose creates a powerful sense of suspended action — the silence immediately before the myth reaches its inevitable conclusion.
Our artistic reconstruction of Mercury About to Kill Argus has been carefully developed to preserve the elegance, anatomy and narrative tension of the original composition.
Presented in our signature Malta White Matte finish, the sculpture has a refined, warm ivory-white appearance that enhances the anatomy, drapery and subtle details of the figure.
Each sculpture is individually prepared and finished by hand in our workshop, creating a work with its own subtle character while preserving the artistic spirit of the original composition.
More than a decorative object, this sculpture captures one of mythology’s most powerful themes: the triumph of intelligence and deception over seemingly impossible vigilance.
MATERIAL INFORMATION
This sculpture is created in solid high-density photoreactive resin, using materials selected for their exceptional precision, durability and ability to capture extremely fine sculptural detail.
Materials of this type are widely used for high-precision artistic reproductions, professional model-making, cinema, theatre, museums and cultural institutions, where surface definition and dimensional accuracy are essential.
We do not use plaster, mineral composites, stone powder or conventional plastic.
The sculpture is produced through a carefully developed process that combines digital reconstruction, high-precision replication and extensive manual finishing.
After replication, every piece is individually cleaned, refined, polished and finished by hand in our workshop.
This process allows us to preserve subtle anatomical forms, drapery and fine sculptural details that would be lost with lower-quality materials or conventional casting methods.
The result is a solid, durable and highly detailed hand-finished artwork, created for collectors who value sculptural accuracy and professional craftsmanship.
MALTA WHITE MATTE FINISH
Our signature Malta White Matte finish gives the sculpture a refined, warm ivory-white appearance inspired by classical sculpture and museum collections.
Unlike a glossy or artificial-looking surface, the matte finish softly absorbs light and enhances the depth of the sculptural forms, revealing the anatomy, drapery and delicate details of the composition.
Each finish is applied and refined individually by hand in our workshop.
HAND-FINISHED ARTWORK
Every sculpture is individually finished by hand in our workshop.
The final surface is carefully refined through several stages of cleaning, polishing and manual finishing to achieve the appearance shown in the photographs.
This individual process gives each sculpture its own subtle character and ensures that every piece receives the same level of attention and craftsmanship.
MADE TO ORDER
Each sculpture is individually created and finished to order in our workshop.
Preparation time may vary depending on the selected size and current workload.
We carefully inspect every sculpture before shipment to ensure the highest possible standard of finish and detail.
PACKAGING AND SHIPPING
Each sculpture is carefully protected using reinforced packaging specifically adapted to its shape and selected size.
Particular attention is given to the sword, winged helmet and the most delicate areas of the composition.
We ship worldwide from our workshop in Spain.
IMPORTANT NOTE
The photographs show real examples of finished sculptures created in our workshop and accurately represent the Malta White Matte finish that the customer will receive.
However, because every sculpture is individually finished by hand, small variations in tone and subtle surface nuances may occur.
These variations are inherent to the artisanal finishing process and make each sculpture unique.
