Seated Virgin Mary, Mater dolorosa (Germain Pilon)
€79,95 – €125,00 (Inc. Tax)
Historic description:
This Seated Virgin Mary (also known as ‘Mater dolorosa’ or ‘Seated Virgin of Sorrows’) is a full-figure sculpture by Germain Pilon, completed in 1586. The original, a complicated marble of elaborate fabric folds, is housed at the Église Saint-Paul-Saint-Louis in Paris where it sits in a niche (hence why it has only been cast from the front)
Our Lady of Sorrows is a name by which the Virgin Mary is referred to in relation to the sorrows in her life. As Mater Dolorosa, it is also a key subject for Marian art in the Catholic Church.
